About Markdown to HTML & PDF

Convert Markdown to clean HTML and save it as a PDF, all in your browser. It supports GitHub-flavoured Markdown (tables, task lists, strikethrough and fenced code) with a live preview. Copy the HTML, download it as a complete web page or as a .md file, or print the document. Useful for README files, notes, assignments and reports.

How to Use

1

Write or open Markdown

Type in the Markdown box, or click Open .md (or drop a .md or .txt file on the box). The preview on the right updates as you type.

2

Choose the look

Pick a Font (sans serif, Georgia or monospace) and a Size. They apply to the preview, the downloaded page and the PDF.

3

Copy or download the HTML

Click Copy HTML, Download .html (a complete page with styles) or Download .md. Open the HTML tab to see the code first.

4

Save as PDF

Click Print / Save as PDF (or press Ctrl+P on this page) and choose Save as PDF as the printer. Turn off Headers and footers for a clean page.

Privacy & Processing

  • Mode: local
  • Files Leave Browser: Local tool processing; review details below
  • Max Input Size: Device memory limits
  • Account Required: No
  • Data Stored Locally: Nothing is saved unless you turn on Save draft in this browser; turning it off deletes the draft.
  • Network Processing: Assets or models may require an initial download

Your Markdown is converted, previewed and printed in your browser and is never uploaded. Images you link to load from their own websites.

Rules & Limitations

  • Copied and downloaded HTML has scripts, event handlers and javascript: links removed. Turn on Keep raw HTML to keep it exactly as written.
  • The preview leaves out inline style attributes, <style> tags and forms, and its links open in a new tab. Inline styles are kept in the downloaded page and the PDF.
  • To start a new page in the PDF, put <div class="page-break"></div> on a line of its own.
  • Images in your Markdown load from their web addresses, so they need an internet connection.
  • Opens .md, .markdown and .txt files up to 5 MB.

Markdown to HTML & PDF FAQ

How do I convert Markdown to PDF?

Paste or open your Markdown here, pick a font and size, then click Print / Save as PDF. In the print dialog choose Save as PDF as the destination and click Save. Turn off Headers and footers so the page has no date or web address on it.

Is my Markdown uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion, preview and printing happen in your browser. The only network requests are for images your Markdown links to, which load from their own websites.

Is the copied HTML safe to paste into my website?

By default, yes: scripts, event handlers such as onerror, and javascript: links are removed before you copy or download. Turn on Keep raw HTML only when you wrote the HTML yourself and need it unchanged.

Does it support tables and task lists?

Yes. It follows GitHub-flavoured Markdown: tables with column alignment, task lists with [ ] and [x], strikethrough with ~~, fenced code blocks and automatic links. HTML written inside the Markdown works too.

Will my text be kept if I close the tab?

Only if you turn on Save draft in this browser. The text is then kept in this browser on this device and comes back next time. Turn the switch off to delete it.

What is the difference between Markdown and HTML?

Markdown is a short way to write formatting, such as # for a heading and ** for bold, that stays easy to read as plain text. HTML is the code web pages are made of. This tool turns the first into the second.
