About Markdown Table Generator

Build Markdown tables without counting pipes and dashes. Type in a grid, paste cells from Excel or Google Sheets, or import CSV or an existing Markdown table. Set each column's alignment and copy neatly padded Markdown, an HTML table or CSV, with a live preview of how the table will look on GitHub and other Markdown sites.

How to Use

Fill the grid

Type in the cells; the first row is the header. Tab and Enter move to the next cell and add a row when you reach the end.

Paste or import data

Copy cells in Excel or Google Sheets and paste them into any cell. Or click Import to paste CSV, tab-separated data or a Markdown table, or to open a .csv, .tsv or .md file.

Arrange rows and columns

Click a cell, then use the Row and Column buttons to insert or delete around it. Align column sets left, centre or right.

Copy the result

Choose Markdown, HTML or CSV, then click Copy or Download.

Rules & Limitations

Up to 500 rows and 50 columns.
Cells hold one line: line breaks inside imported cells become spaces.
A | in a cell is written as \| so it stays in its column. The HTML output escapes <, > and &.
Markdown inside cells, such as **bold** or links, shows in the preview but is copied as plain text in the HTML and CSV output.
Nothing is saved, so copy or download the table before you close the page.

How do I make a table in Markdown?

Write the header row between pipes, then a row of dashes, then one line per row, for example | Name | City |, then | --- | --- |, then | Priya | Pune |. This tool writes it for you and pads the columns so the source is easy to read.

How do I convert Excel to a Markdown table?

Select the cells in Excel or Google Sheets, copy them, click the first cell of the grid here and paste. The table grows to fit and the Markdown updates straight away.

How do I align a column in a Markdown table?

Colons in the dash row set the alignment: :--- is left, :---: is centre and ---: is right. Click a cell in the column and choose Left, Centre or Right under Align column.

How do I put a pipe character in a Markdown table cell?

Escape it as \|. The generator does this for you, so text such as A | B stays in one cell.

Is my table data uploaded?

No. The table is built in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere or saved.
