About Sitemap Generator

Build an XML sitemap from a list of page URLs, or check an existing sitemap for errors. Build escapes every address, skips duplicates, relative links and pages from other sites, and splits very large lists into several files with a sitemap index. Validate checks the XML, the root element and namespace, every URL and date, and the 50,000 URL and 50 MB limits, and shows the line and column of syntax errors. It runs in your browser.

How to Use

1

Add your pages

In Build, paste one full URL per line, or click Import sitemap.xml to start from an existing file. Add a date after a URL (2026-10-06) to give it a last-modified date.

2

Fix what is skipped

The list under sitemap.xml names each skipped line and why, such as a duplicate or another site's address. Turn on Add last-modified dates only if the dates are accurate.

3

Download the sitemap

Click Download (or Download ZIP for more than 50,000 URLs) and upload the file to your site's root.

4

Check any sitemap

In Validate, paste XML or upload a .xml or .xml.gz file. Errors and warnings are listed, and Edit these URLs in Build moves the addresses back for fixing.

Privacy & Processing

  • Mode: local
  • Files Leave Browser: Local tool processing; review details below
  • Max Input Size: Device memory limits
  • Account Required: No
  • Data Stored Locally: Nothing is saved; reloading the page clears both tabs.
  • Network Processing: Assets or models may require an initial download

Sitemaps are built and checked in your browser. Pasted text and uploaded files are never sent anywhere.

Rules & Limitations

  • Each sitemap file can hold at most 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed; larger sites need several files and a sitemap index.
  • Addresses must be absolute (https://…) and from one site. www and non-www count as different sites.
  • lastmod must be a W3C date such as 2026-10-06 or 2026-10-06T14:30:00+05:30, and should be the real date the page last changed.
  • Google ignores changefreq and priority, so they are off by default.
  • Validate checks the sitemap file itself; it does not visit the pages to see whether they load.

Sitemap Generator FAQ

How do I create an XML sitemap?

Paste your page URLs into Build, one per line, and click Download. Upload sitemap.xml to the root of your site and submit its address in Google Search Console.

How do I submit a sitemap to Google?

In Google Search Console, open Sitemaps, enter the sitemap's address (for example https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml) and click Submit. You can also add a Sitemap: line to robots.txt.

Why does my sitemap show "Invalid XML" or "could not be read"?

Often an unescaped & in a URL, a missing xmlns namespace, relative URLs or dates like 10/06/2026. Paste the sitemap into Validate to see each problem, with the line and column for syntax errors.

Do changefreq and priority help SEO?

No. Google ignores both. An accurate lastmod helps Google decide when to crawl a page again.

What is the difference between a sitemap and a sitemap index?

A sitemap lists pages. A sitemap index lists sitemap files and is needed when a site has more than 50,000 URLs or 50 MB of sitemap. Validate accepts both.

Is my sitemap uploaded?

No. Building and checking happen in your browser, and uploaded files are read on your device.
