Slug Generator FAQ
What is a URL slug?
The readable part of a web address that names the page, such as "masala-chai-recipe" in example.com/blog/masala-chai-recipe. A good slug is short, lower case, uses hyphens between words and describes the page.
How do I make a slug from a Hindi title?
Paste the title and keep "Write in English letters" selected: "भारत की कहानी" becomes "bharat-ki-kahani". Choose "Keep as they are" for a Hindi slug such as "भारत-की-कहानी", which browsers show in Hindi but which may appear percent-encoded when copied.
Should I use hyphens or underscores in URLs?
Hyphens. Google treats a hyphen as a space between words but may read words joined by underscores as one word. Underscores are mainly useful for file names and code.
How long should a URL slug be?
Short enough to read at a glance; three to six words is typical. Set Max length to about 60 characters to keep slugs tidy, and turn on "Remove stop words" to drop filler words.
Should I remove stop words from slugs?
It is optional. Removing words like "the" and "of" makes slugs shorter, but keep them if the slug reads badly without them.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Slugs are made in your browser and nothing is sent or saved.
