About Text to Speech

Read any text aloud with the voices built into your device and browser, including Indian English and Hindi voices where they are installed. The text is read one sentence at a time with the current sentence highlighted, and you can change the voice, speed and pitch. Useful for proofreading, listening instead of reading, and language practice.

How to Use

1

Add your text

Type or paste text in the Text box. Hindi and other languages work when a voice for that language is installed.

2

Choose a voice

Pick a voice from the Voice list, grouped by language. When the list is long, type in Find a voice to search it. Voices marked (online) send the text to Google or Microsoft.

3

Set speed and pitch

Move the Speed and Pitch sliders. Changes apply from the next sentence, so playback is not interrupted.

4

Play

Press Play (or Ctrl+Enter in the text box). Pause, Resume and Stop control playback, and clicking a sentence reads from there.

Rules & Limitations

  • Audio can't be downloaded or saved as MP3: browsers play these voices but don't let web pages record them.
  • Voices come from your operating system and browser, so the list differs between devices. For Hindi, add Hindi in Windows speech settings or install Speech Services by Google on Android; Chrome also offers an online Google हिन्दी voice.
  • Voices marked (online) send your text to Google or Microsoft to make the audio and need an internet connection.
  • Resume starts the paused sentence again from its beginning.
  • Needs a browser that supports speech: Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. Some apps' built-in browsers leave it out.

Text to Speech FAQ

How do I convert text to speech in Hindi?

Paste Hindi text and choose a voice under Hindi (India) in the Voice list. If there is none, add a Hindi voice to your device (Windows speech settings, or Speech Services by Google on Android) or use Chrome, which offers an online Google हिन्दी voice.

Can I download the audio as an MP3?

No. Browsers play their built-in voices straight to the speakers and don't let web pages record them, so this tool can only read aloud.

Is my text sent to a server?

Not with voices on your device: the text stays in your browser. Voices marked (online), such as Chrome's Google voices or Edge's Online (Natural) voices, send the text to Google or Microsoft to make the audio, and the tool shows a warning when one is selected.

Why does the voice stop in the middle of long text?

Some browsers, Chrome with online voices in particular, stop long passages after about 15 seconds. This tool reads one sentence at a time to avoid that. If reading still stops, choose another voice.

Why is the voice list empty or different on my phone?

The voices come from the device and browser, not from this website. Install more voices in your phone or computer's speech settings, then reload the page.
