About EXIF Viewer & Remover

See the hidden details stored in your photos, such as the camera, settings, date and the exact place a photo was taken, and remove them before you share. The location is shown in full with a map link, and cleaning keeps the picture exactly as it was because it is not re-compressed. Works with JPEG, PNG and WebP, one photo or many, in your browser.

How to Use

1

Add photos

Drop, choose or paste one or more JPEG, PNG or WebP files. Each one is checked at once.

2

Check what they reveal

A warning shows if a photo contains its location, with an "Open in OpenStreetMap" link. Below it are the camera, settings, dates and other data found.

3

Remove and download

Click "Remove metadata & download" to save clean copies, as one file or a ZIP for several. Use Copy JSON or Download JSON to keep a record of the details.

Privacy & Processing

  • Mode: local
  • Files Leave Browser: Local tool processing; review details below
  • Max Input Size: Device memory limits
  • Account Required: No
  • Data Stored Locally: Nothing is saved. Photos stay in memory only while this page is open.
  • Network Processing: Assets or models may require an initial download

Photos are read and cleaned in your browser and never uploaded. "Open in OpenStreetMap" sends the coordinates to openstreetmap.org only if you click it.

Rules & Limitations

  • JPEG, PNG and WebP only. HEIC and AVIF photos from newer phones are not supported yet; share or export them as JPEG first.
  • Cleaning removes EXIF (including GPS), XMP, IPTC, comments and embedded thumbnails. The colour profile is kept so colours don't change.
  • A photo that relies on its orientation keeps only that one tag, so it doesn't turn sideways.
  • Extra images some phones attach (depth or HDR maps) are dropped from cleaned JPEGs.

EXIF Viewer & Remover FAQ

How do I remove location data from a photo?

Add the photo here and click "Remove metadata & download". The GPS position, along with camera and date details, is removed and you get a clean copy; the picture itself is not changed or re-compressed. On phones you can also turn off location tags in the camera settings.

How do I check if a photo has GPS location?

Add it to this page. If it holds a location, a warning shows the coordinates with a link to open the spot on OpenStreetMap; otherwise it says no location was found.

Does WhatsApp remove EXIF data from photos?

Photos sent normally on WhatsApp, and those posted on most social networks, have their EXIF removed. Files sent as documents, by email, through cloud links or over Bluetooth usually keep everything, including the location.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The files are read and cleaned in your browser and never leave your device. The map link only opens if you click it.

What is the difference between EXIF and XMP?

EXIF is written by the camera: device, settings, date and GPS. XMP is usually added by editing apps such as Lightroom and can repeat the same details, including the location. This tool reads and removes both.
