About Pomodoro Focus Timer

A Pomodoro timer for focused work: 25-minute focus sessions with 5-minute short breaks and a 15-minute long break after every fourth session. You can change all three lengths and the cycle, let the next phase start by itself, and get a chime, a vibration on phones and an optional desktop notification when a phase ends. It runs in your browser and keeps time from the clock, so it catches up after the tab was in the background.

How to Use

1

Start a focus session

Click the play button or press Space. The time left also shows in the browser tab title.

2

Take your break

When the time is up you hear a chime and the timer moves to a short or long break. Click play to start it, or turn on "Start the next phase automatically" in Timer settings.

3

Adjust the settings

Open Timer settings to change the focus, short break and long break lengths, how many sessions come before a long break, the sound and notifications.

4

Keep it in view (optional)

Click Pop out to keep a small timer window on top of your other apps. This works in Chrome and Edge 116 or later on a computer.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing about your sessions is sent anywhere.

Rules & Limitations

  • Phones pause web pages when the screen locks or you switch apps, so the chime sounds when you come back to the tab. The time shown is still correct.
  • On a computer the timer keeps time in a background tab and after sleep; the chime can be a few seconds late in a tab you have not looked at for a while.
  • Desktop notifications need your permission, asked only when you click Turn on notifications. Safari on iPhone shows them only for sites added to the Home Screen.
  • Pop out needs Chrome or Edge 116 or later on a computer; the button is hidden elsewhere.
  • The session count starts again when you reload the page; only your settings are saved.

Pomodoro Focus Timer FAQ

What is the Pomodoro technique?

You work in focused blocks of 25 minutes, called pomodoros, with a 5-minute break after each and a longer 15 to 30-minute break after four of them. This timer follows that cycle by default.

Can I change the 25-minute focus time?

Yes. Open Timer settings and set focus from 1 to 180 minutes, short breaks up to 60 minutes and long breaks up to 120 minutes. Your settings are saved in this browser.

Does the timer keep running in another tab?

Yes. It works out the time left from the clock rather than counting ticks, so switching tabs or letting the computer sleep does not make it drift. On phones the browser pauses the page, so the alert plays when you return.

How do I get a notification when time is up?

Open Timer settings and click Turn on notifications, then allow them when your browser asks. You get a notification when a phase ends while the tab is in the background.

What is the difference between a Pomodoro timer and a countdown timer?

A countdown timer runs once for a time you choose. A Pomodoro timer repeats focus and break periods in a cycle and counts your sessions.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The timer, sound and notifications all work in your browser, and your settings stay on this device.
