Tip & Bill Split Calculator FAQ

How do I split a bill between friends?

Add the tip to the bill total and divide by the number of people. A ₹2,400 bill with a 10% tip is ₹2,640, or ₹660 each for 4 people. Round each share up to ₹10 if you want an easy amount to send.

How much should I tip in India?

Tipping is optional in India. Many people leave about 5 to 10% in sit-down restaurants when the service is good, and often nothing extra when a service charge is already on the bill.

Is a service charge compulsory in Indian restaurants?

No. Under the Central Consumer Protection Authority guidelines of July 2022, restaurants can't add a service charge automatically or make it compulsory. You can ask for it to be removed from the bill.

Is GST charged on the service charge?

Yes. GST is calculated on the food amount plus the service charge. Restaurant GST is usually 5%. A tip you give separately has no GST.

Is my bill amount stored anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is uploaded or saved.
